Aquamarine

AQUAMARINE is the blue variety of Beryl, which is a mineral that crystallizes in hexagonal prisms, is a silicate that combines with metals such as aluminum and beryllium, has a very high hardness value, 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs Scale and an average specific gravity (2.60-2.90).

Like seawater, aquamarine's color shades range from very pale blue to blue-blue, even bluish green, and in this case we speak of green beryl. Its value depends precisely on the intensity of its color, due to the presence of iron in its structure.

It has always been a highly valued gemstone, in fact the ancient Greeks considered it to belong to the treasure of the Sirens, a true good luck charm for those who went to sea, offered to the gods to calm their wrath during storms.

Other very important gems also belong to the Beryl group, the best known of which are Emerald (green), Morganite (pink), Heliodorus (yellow) and Goshenite (colorless).

Beryls are found in various areas of the Earth, but the most significant deposits are found in Brazil, Russia, Australia, Africa, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
